Duration:
7 Weeks
Role:
Self-Directed
Brief:
Create a thirty second title sequence which includes original sound design and a promotional campaign in collaboration with the film students for their graduate projects. The film ‘Plastic Flowers’ deals with heavy themes of grief, loneliness and the supernatural while having a very feminine aesthetic. It was important to capture these themes and strike balance between them in the title sequence and campaign.
A promotional strategy is also needed to reach new audiences and helps the film students gain traction in their industry. The promotional campaign and artefact needs to be cheap to produce as it is for a student film but it still should be unique and engaging.
Solution:
The visual language of the campaign is based on early 2000s tween girl magazines and toys. It was subverted however through the use of colour and audio as a counterpoint.
A microsite was created as well as social media accounts to promote the film through competitions, Q+As with the cast and behind the scene videos. The promotional artefacts and posters all link back to the microsite where this information is available. The microsite has a shop where viewers can purchase promotional artefacts. Users can also purchase an online viewing pass from the microsite to cover the cost of running the site and advertising.
